| As I know, not all people here are known with this subgenre, so I decided to copy a bit from our dear "freunde" Wikipedia: - Quote :
- Black metal (tr00kvltblaeckmetal) is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal. It often employs fast tempos, tremolo picked electric guitars, shrieked vocals, and unconventional song structure.
During the first half of the 1980s, certain thrash metal bands established a prototype for black metal. This First Wave includes bands such as Venom, Bathory, Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. A Second Wave emerged in the early 1990s, which consisted primarily of Norwegian bands such as Burzum, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Immortal and Emperor.
Black metal has been met with considerable hostility from mainstream culture. This is mainly due to the misanthropic and Anti-Christian ideology that is typical of black metal bands. Additionally, some musicians have been associated with church burnings, murder and/or National Socialism. For these reasons and others, black metal may be seen as an underground form of music. Black metal is also divided in 6 kinds: Melodic black metal Symphonic black metal Viking black metal Blackened death metal Black ambient Black doomSo, discuss the fun of church burning, murders of fat guys who eat kebabs and drink cokes, rotting in jail, satanism. And black metal itself. | |

| I like some black metal. From the above mentioned, Emperor and Burzum I like, and Celtic Frost is one of my favourite bands (although I wouldn't really call them black metal ). As for the subgenres, I like Dimmu Borgir (symphonic bm) and Cradle of Filth (melodic bm?). Church burnings, meh. They are intolerant and idiotic, and probably hapen because of the great ammount of drugs that some bands use. If you want your point/music across, be tolerant, and let people like what they like. Or they will like it out of idiocy/fear/false sense of respect. Stay tr00. | |

| I think my first 'black metal' band was Cradle Of Filth, but honestly, they didn't ever had an album that was more black than ''Dusk.. And Her Embrace''. The only decent CD after that one is ''Midian'' but I don't really think that's black metal. More like.. Symphonic heavy metal with crappy vocals. My favorites would be Emperor (ofcourse, it's the fucking black metal legend), Mayhem, Darkthrone. The early Behemoth is also cool, plus Bathory. - Quote :

As far as I know is Hellhammer the drummer of Mayhem.. He also did the drumming on Dimmu Borgirs re-release of Stormblåst in 2005. And.. - Spoiler:
Burzum killed Mayhem. Fuck them.

| Well, Varg's a murderer. But we still worship him *giggle2* I think CoF are a very melodic form of black metal. It's black metal ish, but not as black metal as regular black metal (if that makes any sense ); I just think it's a bit more acessible. | |

| The only black-ish thing about CoF are the fucked up harsh vocals, since really, you have to admit, they play heavy metal nowadays, it's nowhere near black. It's cool to hear that you listen Emperor a bit. It's in my opinion one of the most technical/atmospheric black metal bands ever. Well, they aren't called the emperor for no-reason right? I would really recommend their album 'IX Equilibrium' to anyone who isn't afraid for good black metal, don't expect cheesy CoF/Dimmu Borgir metal though.. What albums did you listened, Kharhaz/or any other listeners? | |

| Not sure I go as far as to name albums I vaguely follow track of Dimmu Borgir, Störmblast, Death Cult Armaggedon, In Sorte Diaboli.. and so on. CoF, I know more of songs than albums. I was going to buy Midian yesterday, but then didn't, so maybe later. As for Mayhem/Burzum/Emperor I know random songs, I won't mind tracking down IX Equilibrium, if you reccomend it. If you consider Celtic Frost black metal, like PoPo put in the description, then I know To Mega Therion and Monotheist (althou that one is more avantgarde) and a couple songs from their first album, Morbid Tales. So as you see, I'm very limited bm wise | |
